Handmade: Miss Mummy

Miss Mummy

This is Miss Mummy and she is throwing a Halloween Ball for some of her friends. Her dress doesn't quite match the vision I had in my head but it's okay for a first try. I got this doll in a lot of 20 on Ebay and have no idea what Barbie or year she is but I would say mid-late 90's.

I would love to do some detailed dioramas but you have to start somewhere. I really have no props to speak of and I think that is what makes the diorama so real. So I will have to build at it slowly (plus I don't have room for much) and practice with simple vignettes like this.

Handmade: Mod Halloween

Stacey rocks out at Miss Mummy's Halloween Ball in this classic strapless dress with coordinating cape.  (Sorry for the blurry pic, BlogPress kept giving me grief when uploading her pictures from the camera roll on y iPad. I deleted them and retook them 4 times but it always failed.  I finally had to take the picture directly on the site. Anyone else ever have this problem?  I took several others the at the same time and had no issue with them....very weird.)

Meet the Dolls: Stacey - # 1165 - 1968 - 1971

Stacey

Meet Barbie's mod British friend, Stacey. Her hair was originally in a short tight flip but it seems over the years after many brushings and perhaps a shampoo or two, the tight flip relaxed. She has all her lashes and great face paint, I don't believe she has been retouch but am not positive.

Handmade: Fall Party Dresses

Vivian and Joan

BFF's  Vivian and Joan arrive at 'Miss Mummy's Halloween Ball'.  I think the colors in these dresses really look good on these ladies.

Meet the Dolls: Joan - Bend Leg Midge # 1060 - 1965 - 1966

Joan

Isn't she a doll! She looks smart, sassy and classy. Again I think it's the hairstyle that appeals to me so much on this doll. It's so much more flattering than the flip. She came to me au natural, no swimsuit but she will be fun to dress, so stylish.  She is my favorite Midge doll.

Meet the Dolls: Vivian - American Girl # 1070

Vivian

This was the doll I wanted most as a child, but it just wasn't in the cards. So I bought my own many years later. She wears her original swimsuit and unlike some of my other vintage repurchased dolls, she has not had any work done. I just love this hairstyle and think it was much more flattering than the ponytail and bubblecut.

Handmade: by Halina's Doll Fashions/Chicago

Barbara in handmade Halina

Barbara wearing custom Halina Doll Fashion outfit.  Halina Nashan made custom fashion doll clothing for high end department stores in Chicago like Marshall Fields during the 60's.  I remember going to the big Field's store on State Street.  They had an incredible toy department, with glass display counters filled with exquisite handmade doll clothes.  I wanted one so bad, but had to wait many years.
I don't know where I picked up this outfit.  Mrs. Nashan passed away in 1999 but I think she had closed her operation long before that.  Anyway I am glad to have this little piece of doll history.

This is a simple cocktail dress of sheer fabric over off-white taffeta.  The coat is made of the same sheer fabric with rhinestone accent closure.  It's perfect for 'Miss Mummy's Halloween Ball'!

The V.I.P. Scene - # 1473 - 1971 - 1972

Ken in The V.I.P Scene

As I mentioned before Ken's wardrobe is pretty sparse. At the moment this is his only suit and it's pretty hideous. But he can't go to 'Miss Mummy's Halloween Ball' in his bathing suit. This outfit also has a black and white checkered but it just makes the whole ensemble worse.  As it is he looks like the walking dead!

Masquerade # 944 - 1963-1964

Barbie in Masquerade

Barbie brings out this vintage outfit to wear to 'Miss Mummy's Halloween Ball'. Unfortunately, she had to leave the Ball after this picture as the minute I put the tights on her they basically started to disintegrate. Her toes popped through, crotched ripped, elastic went. She will have to shop for a replacement pair. She has also lost her black shoes with cute little pompoms, her mask and her invite!

While I think this is a cute outfit, as a kid I never knew what to do with it. None of my other dolls has costumes and dressing up by yourself is no fun.

Skipper goes mod in the is cute outfit. Dress has a knit bodice (sorry forgot to take pic) attached to a miniskirt with matching blazer. Her accessories include matching hat, knee high socks, yellow booties and purse. Once again she is missing her books but has the belt to hold them.

Meet the Dolls: Midge # 860 - 1963 - 1967

Midge

Barbie's BFF is absolutely adorable with big blue eyes and freckles. She came in blonde, redhead and brunette.  And best of all she can wear any and all of her fashion model friend's clothes!

A sadistic sibling of the previous owner amputated poor Midge's little fingers on each hand. But even though she is less than perfect I am very happy to have her in my doll family.

Deboxing Day: Ava Winter - Enchanted Evening Reproduction # 14992 - 1995

Ava Winter

Freed from her box after 19 years Ava is ready for a night out in this reproduction of one of Barbie's most beautiful outfits. I always wanted this outfit and owning a reproduction is just fine with me.

This reproduction doll is just stunning! Her skin tone is very fair and her hair a lovely platinum blonde, absolutely gorgeous.

Once again the rubber bands of her ponytail were dried out and brittle. I replaced both of them.
