I am also changing out how I store my dolls.  I don't display all of my dolls, just bring a few out at a time and except for a few 90's dolls and my Silkstones I always debox my dolls.  Naturally most of my vintage dolls no longer have boxes (except for the 1 Allan) so I am always looking for ideas to keep the ladies and gents safe. 

I did have most of my vintage dolls stored in vintage cases, but that can cause bent legs.  I have also stored a lot of the dolls in 4" x 13" boxes but that causes their hair to be flat.

My plan now is to store them on stands covered with unbleached bags (I made them) on shelves in the closest. I figure the stands will help keep their legs from getting bent and the bags will keep the dust off.  I will put a tag on the bag and the bottom of the stand to identify the doll and they are stored nude, of course. 

We'll see how this works out.  How do you store your dolls?  I would love to know!

The blonde Ken has a replaced leg, which is shorter than the other one.  I learned that there was a 2nd issue of Ken in 1962 that was a little shorter than the other issues, so someone must have replaced his leg but from the wrong issue.  So blonde Ken has a noticable limp, but the ladies still love him!

Supersize Barbie #9828

Look who I found over the weekend:  Supersize Barbie

She has some issues -  wobble head and waist, residue from a label on her chest and thinning hair.  But she has the bodysuit portion of her outfit and it is in pretty good shape, just needs washing. 

Her face paint is good, no rubs but she could definitely use a spa day!  Oh yeah and she has her diamond ring!

She is not a doll I was looking for but there she was lying in a basket at one of the thrift stores we go to for books.  I don't find her a cute as many of the other Barbies but she will be a nice addition to the collection.  And she was a good price.

I am going to clean her up, see if I get her some clothes or at the very least make her something simple.  Shoes are going to be an issue I fear but I'll have get her at least one pair.  A girl has to have at least one pair of shoes!

I think the MOD dolls are some of my favorites.  I was 11-12 when these dolls started coming out so the outfits they had were more like what teens were wearing then.  I think at that time I had a better connection with them.

Now that I am older I really love the classic styles of the early 60's vintage doll outfits but these are still dear to me.

Advance Vintage Pattern 3377 - Amazing Wiggle Dress

I have been looking for a really nice 50's style wiggle dress pattern, one that Joan Holloway would rock the halls of Sterling Cooper in, and came across Advance 3377.  This copy of the vintage pattern has been with me for years but I never made anything from it.   Why, I'm not sure, maybe because I have so many other patterns to tempt me. 

The last dress initial caught my eye but the sundress like bodice is a little to casual for an office type atmosphere.  But I pulled the instructions and pattern pieces out to see if I could kluge together bodice 4 and skirt 6.  Well, lo and behold, view 5 is NOT a 3pc suit as I had thought (maybe one should read the pattern envelope descriptions, it might be a time saver) but an amazing wiggle dress with a jacket AND.........all the bodices in this pattern have facings!!!!!  I love facings, makes it a little bit easier to do those necklines and itty bitty armholes.  Usually I draft my own (if I'm not feeling too lazy) but here they have done it for me! 

So I worked up 2 versions.

Evelyn (L) and Veronica (R) were kind enough to be my guinea pigs models.  Veronica's dress is made per the instructions with gathers on the side of the skirt.

Evelyn's was made with inverted pleats at the side of the skirt.

It's not a big difference but I do think the inverted pleat makes a cleaner line.  If I was really industrious I would put darts in at the side, but that involves extra sewing and the invert pleat is soooo easy.  

The Ladies really like this dress, it fits them very well.  They would like to have more of them,,,,,many more, maybe even that little jacket too!  They are so demanding.

Collection Catalog Project Has Begun

After several false starts I finished my database design and started pulling out the dolls to get them logged.  So far I have only managed to get 15 complete with pictures!!!  Ugh, who knew cataloging dolls could be such a process.  Of course I had to dress them in their original outfits (had to find them first) if I had them, brush their hair, clean them up a little.......you get the picture.

Anyway, I thought since I was doing this I may as well put them out on here to showoff  share as I go. You may have seen a few of them already on here but hey you can never get too much Barbie!

****Disclaimer - I have done the best research I could, using all the books I have and trying to read the markings on the dolls, to establish who they are.  This may not be totally accurate.  I am only positive about my first 4 original dolls.

Well, gotta get back to it, these dolls aren't going to catalog themselves (they are a lazy lot, just standing on shelves or lying in boxes!).
