Barbie Collection Catalog Project 48-52

Ooops!  I got my catalog posts a little out of order.  I was trying to catalog the dolls by year but it didn't quite work out. Oh well, no big deal.

So here is the next grouping.

1995 Enchanted Evening Reproduction Barbie #14992

I like the reproduction dolls becuase it offers people a reasonable way to get a version of the iconic vintage dolls and some of the most popular outfits from back in the day.

I got this reproduction because I always wanted this outfit.  This is a very nicely done reproduction.  The outfit is well done and the fabric quality is nice.  I love the doll!  She has beautiful platinum hair and gorgeous skin tone, almost porcelain like.  She is a movie star in my diorama life known as Ava Winter.  She is a star.

1995  Phone Fun Skipper AA #14313

This is my all time favorite modern Skipper.  She is just sooooo cute!  And has the most incredible head of hair.  Just a little darling.

1996 Spiegel Summer Sophisticate Barbie #15591

I am not in love with this doll, her forehead is too large and the skin tone is too pinky.  But her outfit.....oh my be still my 50's heart!  I had to have it and decided to keep the doll to play the Mother in one of the many dioramas that I haven't gotten around to making yet.

1996 Wild Bunch Francie AA Reproduction #17607

The original doll was a bit of a coundrum when issued because at the time there was no AA Barbie, just her friends Cara and Christie.  Not that she couldn't of had a cousin of AA ethnicity but it wasn't as prevalent back then.  I always wanted her but there is no way I could afford an original so this is a great reproduction for many people like me.

The outfit is nice but not my favorite Francie outfit.  I definitely got this set for the doll and she is very nice.

1997 Silken Flame/Red Flare Reproduction Barbie #18448

I got this set for the black hair bubblecut as I have the original of both of these outfits.  This whole set was a little disappointing.  The doll just doesn't look as good next to my vintage bubblecuts as the reproduction ponytails do next to their vintage counterparts.  Her hair is much thinner and finer than the vintage ones and she just doesn't measure up.

The outfits are okay but next to the originals the poor fabric and sewing quality shows.  The satin and velvet is very stiff.  Don't get me wrong, it's great to have if you can't afford an original but the quality compared to the reproduction Enchanted Evening outfit is of lesser quality, I think.

Well, the cataloging is coming along, 54 done so far!  I am trying to get at least 5 done a week and hope to start getting some of the outfits done soon too.  I have seen some other peoples collections on FB and mine is nothing compared to some......I don't know how they keep it all straight!

Thanks for stopping by.........

Barbie Collection Catalog Project 53-54

You may have seen these two dolls throughout this blog together.  They are two of my favorite and although they have an 11yr age distance between them I think they look so darn cute together.

1986 Hot Rockin' Ken #3131

I have mentioned before I love a Ken with hair....rooted hair, and Hot Rockin' Ken (aka Daryl) has quite a beautiful blonde mullet.  He also comes with all the trappings of a rockstar...fancy outfit, guitar and mic.

NOTE:  If you have this guy in your collection NRFB you may want to take him out as his silver lame' jumpsuit and duster deteriorate badly and may meld to his body.

1997 Sweetheart Barbie #18608

I got this doll in a box lot.  She was nude and it took me a while to identify her.  I love her!  She has the most beautiful platinum blonde hair (although I think she may have had a hair cut as it seems shorter than most dolls of this era.

You have to admit they do look good together!

Stay At Home Sewing for SunGold Malibu Barbie and the Gang

Like most of the world we are under a 'stay at home order' except for essentials, so I have a lot of time on my hands.  I have been making dust bags for the dolls and slowly cataloging the collection. And I've done some sewing for the dolls in between making face masks.

Since I had all the SunGold Malibu dolls out for pictures and cataloging I decided they all needed a new outfit.

I used the following patterns:

The Ken pants and one shirt were from the pattern top left.  The Ladies outfits were from the bottom pattern.  And obviously Skipper's outfit is from the Skipper pattern.

The pattern for the Ladies is full of simple outfits, lots of tops and bottoms that you can mix and match in different fabrics and colors.  It can be used to build a nice wardrobe.  This pattern is from 2002 but fit these 1983 bodies perfectly.  My favorite is the skirt pattern, it's simple and can be made in any length, they give 2, but you can make any.

The Ken button front shirt I made here is actually made from a 1960's vintage pattern, that is my tried and true for Ken.  I don't recall the number offhand.  I did make the tee shirt style on this pattern and the shorts.  I kind of like the tee shirt pattern, you can use woven fabric as I did here.  The shorts/pants pattern is not my favorite as it has an elastic waist and snap front, I prefer just the snap but it was easy to make up.  This pattern is from 1986 and fit the boys well.

The Skipper pattern is from 1991 and poor SunGold Malibu Skipper is swimming in them!  I have a couple Skippers from the 90's and will have to pull one out and try these duds on her to see if they fit.  Since there aren't a lot of Skipper patterns I guess I will have to try my vintage 60's patterns on her and see if they fit better or adjust this pattern to her.

I must confess I am very slow at putting on fasteners.  It doesn't matter on things that close in the back but a little obvious on Ken's shirts......no buttons! Love this simple skirt.

This Ken shirt was actually the first one I made about 6 years ago, so it has buttons!

I do like this tee shirt pattern, very easy to make up so will make more for sure.

Poor Skipper.....Hammer pants and a baggy shirt!  PJ has my favorite top pattern of the group. A great casual top for shorts, pants of skirts!

Barbie Collection Catalog Project 46-47

1985 Tropical Miko
#2056

1985 Tropical Skipper
#1021

Another group of beach dolls, this grouping contained 7 dolls, same as SunGold except no Hispanic male doll.  I only wanted the Miko doll for a diorama storyline, but I got a deal on the 2 dolls and well......2 dolls are always better than one.

This is my favorite asian doll.  I like that her makeup is very simple.  This Skipper is okay, better than the SunGold one, but her forehead is a little large I think.

A note to anyone who has these dolls still in the box......the rubber bands will be hard, brittle and cracked.  The also seem to react to Skipper's hair poorly and melt into it, this happened to this doll and the SunGold one.  Miko's rubber band was just brittle and cracked but not stuck to her hair.

Thanks for stopping by........

Barbie Collection Catalog Project 38-45

The individual beach dolls were inexpensive and popular, with a new group produced every 2-3 years or so.  I have a doll or 2 from some other years but have all 8 of the
SunGold Malibu series.  I purchased them all within the past 10 years NRFB, but as with the majority of my dolls, I deboxed them.

1983 #1067 SunGold Malibu Barbie

1983 #1088 SunGold Malibu Ken

1983 #7745 SunGold Malibu Barbie AA

1983 #3849 SunGold Malibu Ken AA

1983 #4970 SunGold Malibu Barbie Hispanic

1983 #4971 SunGold Malibu Ken Hispanic

1983 #1187 SunGold Malibu PJ

1983 #1069 SunGold Malibu Skipper

I love these dolls!  There is something for everyone.  The hair on the AA and Hispanic Barbies is gorgeous!  The AA's hair is a deep brown and golden brown mix, and the Hispanic's is a deep brown and black mix.  And it is soooo soft.  The blonde Barbie is one of the prettiest I've seen.  In all the Barbies in this series are my favorites.

So far I have counted and cataloged 45 of my dolls.  Still a long way to go but I will get through it.  I have taken some time from working on it to make some face masks for The Husband and myself and for a friend's daughter who works in healthcare.  I may make more for the local nursing homes if they need them......doing my part to stem the spread!

Thanks for stopping by.......stay safe.
